For 20 wonderful years, our global AmaWaterways family has been guided by our Co-Founder and Executive Vice President Kristin Karst’s “Five P’s” – what have since become the foundation of our core values. You can rest assured that our passionate shoreside staff and crew will always take care of you throughout every step of your journey because we live and breathe each of the values listed below.
PASSION
“Ama” means love – and we put love in everything we do. We believe wholeheartedly that if you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life. Each and every day for the past two decades, we have brought passion into our journeys with AmaWaterways and we always go above and beyond to ensure our guests have a memorable experience.
POSITIVITY
We are dedicated to making a positive impact on the world through our commitments to celebrating diversity, giving back to local communities and reducing our impact on the environment. Whether it’s learning about new cultures, supporting local economies or striving to reduce paper waste and eliminate single-use plastics on board and ashore, we believe that, together, we can make the world a more positive place – one river at a time.
PERSONAL INTERACTION
Personal connection has been a fundamental value of our company since the very beginning and is the primary reason guests return to river cruise with us year after year. Our staff and crew are very passionate about getting to know both our guests and travel partners and strive to give you the very best personalized experience from the moment you book to the moment you disembark – and even after you’ve returned home.
PARTNERSHIP
One of our company mottos is: “Be extraordinary – together.” We are all a part of the same AmaWaterways family and our success depends on working closely with our travel partners, our shoreside colleagues and onboard crews all around the globe. Our willingness to collaborate and work together as a unified team – a family – is key to our continued success.
PIONEER SPIRIT
From the beginning, we have always been pioneers in the industry – and continuously create new innovations to enhance our guests’ river cruising experience. Whether it’s seeking out off-the-beaten-path destinations, offering exclusive excursions or providing new wellness activities and special packages on board, you can trust that AmaWaterways is always at the pulse of travel trends and innovates with your best interests at heart.
Every AmaWaterways journey is shaped by the values we’ve carried from the very beginning. Inspired by our founders and guided by what matters most to our guests, these five pillars reflect the care, curiosity and connection that define our river cruises.
AmaWaterways was founded by industry experts with a deep love for the rivers, including Rudi Schreiner, who once built and lived on a raft along the Amazon. That spirit of exploration still guides us today as we launch new ships and itineraries around the world. We remain family-run and focused solely on river cruising, launching custom-designed ships that honor the character of each river, from Europe’s legendary Danube to Colombia’s intriguing Magdalena.
At AmaWaterways, service is never scripted. Our crew takes the time to notice what matters to you, offering care that feels genuine and intuitive. With a high staff-to-guest ratio and dedicated expert guides throughout your journey, we strive to create continuity and connection. It’s this attention to detail, and the warmth behind it, that brings guests back year after year.
We believe the most memorable moments happen when travel feels personal. That’s why we offer a variety of daily on shore experiences, so you can choose how you explore, whether this is through guided insight, independent discovery, or a mix of both. Our local guides share their stories with heart and our Cruise Managers tailor recommendations to your interests. No two journeys are the same and that’s exactly how it should be.
The rivers don’t just transport from one destination to the next—they bring people together. Onboard, guests connect over shared passions and moments of discovery, whether it’s a lively conversation in the lounge or a quiet moment watching the sunset. Our ships foster a sense of community with a diverse crew and welcoming atmosphere, where friendships form naturally and often last long after the journey ends.
AmaWaterways evolves with its guests. Every innovation, from our wellness program to our specialty dining experiences to our itinerary-enhancing partnerships, reflects what travelers value most. We listen and adapt with purpose, not novelty. Whether it’s launching the first onboard internet café or adding a pickleball court to our flagship AmaMagna, our goal is simple: to make each journey more personal, more flexible and more meaningful. We don’t just listen to our guests — we evolve with them.
AmaWaterways is intentionally nimble, with a guest-first mindset that shapes everything from itineraries to onboard experiences. We act on real feedback, adapt quickly, and innovate with purpose — not for novelty but to make every journey more meaningful, more flexible, and more personal. Whether it’s launching the first onboard internet café (to give people more quality time exploring when on land), partnering with Disney and the Smithsonian, or adding wellness classes, bikes, pickleball courts — every detail is shaped by what guests value most.
